Bayern’s Kim Min-jae sidelined for several weeks with Achilles injury

Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae will be out for “several weeks” due to an Achilles tendon injury, head coach Vincent Kompany confirmed on Friday.
The South Korean centre-back will miss Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Union Berlin, as well as his country’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Oman and Jordan later this month.
“Min-jae is injured,” Kompany said at a press conference. “I hope it won’t take too long, but he’ll be out for several weeks.”
The Belgian coach explained that the club is being cautious with the 27-year-old’s recovery. “We hope he’ll be available at some point, but we need to make sure we don’t overuse it with the workload he has already had. Hopefully, it’s not something too serious.”
Kim joined Bayern from Napoli in the summer of 2023 and has been a key part of the squad, making 73 appearances in all competitions. This season, he has played 23 of Bayern’s 26 Bundesliga matches, starting each time.
Meanwhile, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer has returned to individual training but remains unavailable for the Union Berlin fixture. German tabloid Bild reported that the veteran goalkeeper is expected to be fit in time for Bayern’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Inter Milan on April 8.
In the Bundesliga, Bayern currently lead the table, sitting eight points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
