Barcelona cruise past Benfica to reach Champions League quarter-finals

BARCELONA: Barcelona delivered a dominant first-half performance to defeat Benfica 3-1 in their Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday, securing a 4-1 aggregate victory and a spot in the quarter-finals.

Raphinha struck twice, while 17-year-old Lamine Yamal stole the show with a sensational goal and an inspired display down the right flank. The Spanish teenager tormented Benfica’s defense throughout the night, creating numerous chances and proving unstoppable for left-back Samuel Dahl.

Yamal set up Barcelona’s opener in the 11th minute with a dazzling solo run, weaving past defenders before delivering a perfect cross for Raphinha, who volleyed home from close range. Benfica responded swiftly, as Nicolás Otamendi headed in from a corner two minutes later.

However, Barcelona continued their attacking onslaught, with Yamal restoring their lead in stunning fashion. The young winger danced past multiple defenders before unleashing a powerful strike past the goalkeeper. Raphinha then doubled his tally before halftime, sealing the win for the Catalans.

Barcelona now awaits the winner of the tie between Lille and Borussia Dortmund, who play on Wednesday after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
