Arsenal show resilience to beat Brentford and stay in title race without Saka

LONDON: Arsenal demonstrated their resilience and depth as they overcame Brentford 3-1 away on Wednesday, marking a strong start to the new year and reclaiming second place in the Premier League standings. The win came despite the absence of star forward Bukayo Saka, who is sidelined for at least two months following hamstring surgery.

The trip to Brentford, a team known for their formidable home performances, posed a significant challenge. Arsenal’s task became even tougher when Bryan Mbeumo capitalized on Brentford’s first attack to give the hosts a 13th-minute lead.

However, the Gunners responded with composure. Gabriel Jesus, continuing his recent return to form, netted the equalizer just before halftime, breathing new life into Mikel Arteta’s side. Arsenal emerged from the break with determination, and five minutes into the second half, Mikel Merino punished Brentford’s failure to clear a corner, putting the visitors ahead.
