Amorim set to take Manchester United helm as Sporting release agreed

Ruben Amorim is expected to be confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager on Thursday after an agreement was reached with Sporting Lisbon, according to reports. The 39-year-old is anticipated to remain with Sporting for their next three matches, including a Champions League clash against Manchester City, before assuming his role at Old Trafford during the November international break.

Amorim’s first match in charge of United is expected to be an away fixture against Ipswich on November 24. According to Sky Sports, United will pay Sporting an additional €1 million beyond his €10 million release clause for an expedited release.

Sporting confirmed United’s willingness to meet the clause in a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange on Tuesday. United parted ways with Erik ten Hag on Monday following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham, which left them 14th in the Premier League. Despite substantial summer spending, Ten Hag struggled to deliver consistent results, with United winning just one of their last eight games before Wednesday’s League Cup victory.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who led United to a 5-2 win over Leicester in the League Cup, expressed his commitment. “I’m helping as long as I’m needed and in the future, in any capacity,” he said.
