Algeria complete perfect Group E campaign at Africa Cup of Nations

RABAT: Algeria wrapped up a flawless Group E campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a 3-1 victory over Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, finishing top of the group with a perfect nine points.
Goals from Zinedine Belaid, Fares Chaibi and Ibrahim Maza sealed Algeria’s third straight win of the tournament, underlining their status as one of the early favourites. Equatorial Guinea, who struggled throughout the group stage, pulled one back through Emilio Nsue but ended the competition without a point.
In the group’s other match, Burkina Faso beat Sudan 2-0 to secure second place with six points. Lassina Traore opened the scoring before Arsene Kouassi added a second to confirm the win. Sudan, despite the defeat, finished third on three points.
All three teams — Algeria, Burkina Faso and Sudan — had already booked their places in the Round of 16 before the final round of group matches, leaving only the final standings to be decided.
Algeria will now turn their attention to a knockout clash with DR Congo, while Sudan are set to face defending champions Senegal in the next round as the tournament moves into its decisive phase.
