Al-Wasl claim Super Shield title with 1-0 win over Al-Sadd

UAE’s Al Wasl claimed the 2025 Qatar-UAE Super Shield title with a narrow 1-0 victory over hosts Al Sadd on Saturday evening at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.

The first half ended goalless, but early in the second half, Al Wasl took the lead through a strike by Nicolás Giménez.

Al Sadd pushed hard after falling behind, with head coach Félix Sánchez making several substitutions, including introducing Hassan Al Haydos and Rafael Mujica. The team became more dangerous in attack but failed to capitalize on several clear chances. In the dying moments of stoppage time, the referee issued a red card to Al Sadd’s Hassan Al Haydos. There was still time for more action, as Ahmed Suhail’s strike from a free-kick hit the post, narrowly missing an opportunity to change the course of the match.

This was the second edition of the tournament, part of a series of competitions involving four Qatari and four Emirati clubs.

The match was played in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere, attended by hundreds of Al Wasl fans alongside Al Sadd supporters, with a total crowd of 9,043 spectators.
