Doha: Al Sailiya officially secured promotion to the Qatar Stars League (1st Division) for next football season after being crowned champions of the Second Division League this evening, following a 1-0 victory over Al Waab in their Round 14 and final match of the season, held at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
The only goal of the match was scored by Algerian striker Mohamed Benyettou in the 7th minute. Both teams shared possession and control during the match, but Al Sailiya held the upper hand thanks to the cohesion of their lines.
Al Sailiya returns to the First Division after finishing top of the Second Division League table with 28 points, having won eight matches, lost two, and drawn four.
Meanwhile, Al Waab remained on 12 points in fourth place.
In another match, Al Markhiya defeated Muaither 2-0, earning a place in the promotion playoff against Umm Salal, who finished 11th in the QNB Stars League.
In the remaining fixtures, Mesaimeer beat Al Kharaitiyat 4-0, Al Markhiya overcame Muaither 2-0, and Al Bidda defeated Lusail 3-2.
According to the league structure, the team finishing first in the Second Division is promoted directly to the First Division, while the second-placed team competes in a playoff against the 11th-placed team from the QNB Stars League.
If the playoff match ends in a draw, extra time consisting of two 15-minute halves will be played. If the tie persists, the outcome will be decided by penalty shootouts.
