DOHA: Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd will host Algerian champions Mouloudia Club of Algiers (MC Alger) in the second edition of the Al Ahrar Cup on Aug. 15 as part of their preparations for the 2026-27 season, the club said on Sunday.
The friendly will be played at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, with the winners receiving the Al Ahrar Cup trophy.
Named in reference to Al Sadd’s founding in 1969, the competition was launched last year, when the Qatari club lifted the inaugural title by defeating Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca 5-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
Al Sadd said the match would form a key part of the team’s pre-season programme as it looks to build fitness and cohesion ahead of the new campaign.
The reigning domestic champions will begin the season aiming to defend their Qatar Stars League title after finishing top of the standings last season.
The encounter against MC Alger is expected to provide a stern test for both sides as they continue preparations for their respective domestic and continental campaigns.
