Al Sadd boost AFC Champions League hopes with 1-0 victory over Persepolis

DOHA: Al Sadd boosted their hopes of reaching the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 Round of 16 after edging Persepolis 1-0 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Monday. Mateus Uribe’s goal in first-half stoppage time was enough to secure the three points for the Qatari side, moving them to seven points in the group, while Persepolis remain six points adrift.
Persepolis, desperate to revive their campaign, were under pressure early on. Al Sadd’s Boualem Khoukhi tested the visitors with a free-kick in the fourth minute, but his shot went over the bar. Persepolis responded with a chance of their own as Lucas Joao set up Omid Alishah, but Al Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham handled the effort with ease.
The result leaves Al Sadd well-positioned to advance, while Persepolis face a tough challenge in their remaining fixtures.
