Al-Buraikan’s late goal secures Saudi Arabia’s knockout spot in Gold Cup draw with Trinidad and Tobago

LAS VEGAS: Firas Al-Buraikan delivered a crucial equalizer to earn Saudi Arabia a 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday in Las Vegas, sealing their place in the knockout stage of the Gold Cup.
Trinidad and Tobago took an early lead in the 10th minute when Dante Sealy unleashed a thunderous left-footed strike from outside the box. The Caribbean side pushed for more, knowing a win would have secured their progression.
However, Al-Buraikan rescued Saudi Arabia in dramatic fashion. After Saleh Al-Shehri’s shot hit the crossbar, Al-Buraikan reacted quickly to slot the rebound past Marvin Phillip, who finished with two saves.
Saudi Arabia’s Nawaf Al-Aqidi also made two important stops, and Trinidad’s Justin Garcia came inches from snatching a last-gasp winner, but his stoppage-time effort rattled the crossbar.
The United States topped Group D with a perfect 3-0-0 record. Saudi Arabia (1-1-1, 4 points) advanced in second, while Trinidad and Tobago (0-1-2, 2 points) were eliminated.
