Aspire Zone gets ready to celebrate National Sport Day

Doha, Qatar: Aspire Zone Foundation’s (AZF) National Sport Day (NSD) celebrations are rapidly taking shape as the NSD organising committee at AZF put final touches to this year’s programme.

The activities are being organised by AZF and its member organisations – Aspire Academy, Aspetar, and Aspire Logistics – and will include more than 20 unique events for all members of the community to enjoy. Moreover, AZF will host more than 18 entities participating in NSD celebrations.

As with the previous years, 2020’s plans prove that AZF offer something for everyone, regardless of age or fitness.

Opportunity for all

Commenting on the NSD preparations, Nasser Abdulla Al Hajri, Chairman of the NSD Organising Committee at AZF, said: “Our plans for this year’s National Sport Day are progressing well and the teams at our member organisations have been busy working for some time now. Together, they have drawn on the collective experience and sporting capabilities to develop another fantastic and varied programme.

“What makes our NSD activities unique is that we open our doors to all members of the community so they can come and benefit from our expertise.

“In designing our NSD programme of activities, AZF focuses on activities that promote physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle and emphasise the importance of exercise in daily life. This is in line with AZF’s efforts to promote healthy lifestyles among people of all ages across the country, helping Qatar realise the Qatar National Vision 2030.

“Thanks to our ongoing commitment to the local community, AZF enables organisations and entities of all shapes and sizes to benefit from our world-class venues and capabilities by hosting their own NSD activities in Aspire Zone. This, in turn, offers all sectors of the local community in Qatar the opportunity to celebrate NSD in their own way, significantly increasing the number of participants in AZF’s NSD celebrations year after year,” Al Hajri added.

Run&bike, obstacle-course race, and foot-volleyball

AZF’s three-member organisations; Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics join forces to provide a sporty day full of innovative activities such as foot-volleyball, run&bike and obstacle-course race.

NSD activities programme is demonstration of the unique AZF trilogy, which brings together Aspire Academy, Aspetar and Aspire Logistics, where there will be many activities that are based on sports science that a team from Aspire Academy provides such as foot-volleyball, yoga exercises and multiple sports skills.

Run&bike is a new activity presented by the Aspetar’s team for the first time, while Aspire Logistics team organises many community events, especially the obstacle-course race for children and teenagers, fitness relay for adults, wall climbing and many other events. All these events are open to all members of civil society.

In run&bike participants can form a team of two, one runner and the other a biker, each cycle and run every 2 km to finish around 4 km together.

The event will start at 10:00 am in the area between the Torch Hotel and Khalifa International Stadium.

Fun run is back

The Fun run activity, one of the most popular events in AZF’s NSD programme in previous years, is back by popular demand and will be open to all members of the community, including men, women, families, children and persons with special needs.

It will include a 2-kilometre course around Aspire Zone that will enable participants to experience AZF’s various venues and facilities while getting fit and having fun.

Registration is open to all at AZF’s website. The race will start at 8 am in the area between Khalifa International Stadium and the Torch Hotel.

Ladies and girls-only activities

NSD events at Aspire Zone will witness activities dedicated to women and girls only in an atmosphere of complete privacy. Ladies-only activities include badminton and basketball in the Multi-purpose Hall (2) at Aspire Dome from 10.30 in the morning until 3 pm.

Activities at Aspire Dome

Aspire Dome will host a variety of activities for families and friends, including running, hammer throwing, and plyometric challenges. Aspire Dome’s activities typically attract up to 2500 people because they offer such a diverse and rewarding set of challenges for all ages, increasing endurance, strength and flexibility.

In addition, the Sports Science and Football Performance department at Aspire is organising several football-related activities, including shooting, dribbling, fitness challenge, football matches and more. These activities are suitable for all age groups and fitness levels.

The dome will also witness a range of fun sports activities and challenges for all family members, including basketball and challenging barriers, etc. as well as events for children under 10 years, such as children's gymnastics, wall climbing and other challenging activities by the Multi-Sports Development Programme.

Activities from morning to night

Early risers will also be able to take part in AZF’S NSD activities earlier in the day, as the open-round-the-clock Aspire Park will be open for walking until the first round of activities begins.

Many organisations and pitches open to all

In addition to its own activities, AZF will also be hosting more than 18 public and private sector entities celebrating NSD with their employees and the public.

The 2020 edition of NSD at Aspire Zone comes in partnership with Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Gas, Sports Corner, KidZania, Aspire Active and Saleh Hamad Al Mana Company (Nissan).
