Aspetar to host Conference on Medicine and Science in Athletics from May 3 to 5

Doha, Qatar: Aspetar, one of the world’s leading sports medicine hospitals for the treatment of many of the most common athletic injuries, will host an International Conference on Medicine and Science in Athletics taking place at the Aspire Academy’s state-of-the-art Football Performance Centre from May 3rd to 5th.

Aspetar is uniquely positioned to offer a nuanced perspective into the science behind the treatment of some of the most common injuries. For example, it currently hosts large clinical data on acute hamstrings injuries and has established a strong research infrastructure around the topics which has led to breakthrough treatments for athletes suffering from these injuries – a topic that will be addressed by Aspetar’s experts.

At the conference, local and international experts will also share some of the latest insights and research available from Aspetar and other leading regional and international bodies culminating in group discussions to address topics such as optimising health and performance in athletics, heat acclimation and cooling, athletes’ experiences of injuries, performance nutrition and common illnesses in athletics.

Another key focus area at the event will be Sports and Performance Nutrition, a service offered by Aspetar, which enables access to the latest information on practical sports nutrition and helps athletes get more from their training and competition performance.

Leading up to the Doha Diamond League 2019, the conference will also touch on preparations that athletes need to undertake when competing in the heat and the importance of acclimatisation in similar environments to improve performance.

The conference will also feature experts from Aspetar’s surgical department and will include a detailed practical session specifically designed to upskill those participants drawn from the clinical anatomy field.

The conference will take place at Aspire Academy’s football performance centre and those interested in attending can register via the www.aspetar.com/events.aspx.
