‘You’ve to take quick decisions’

AL SHAHANIYA midfielder Mohammed Sayyar scored arguably the best goal in the third round of Qatar Stars League last week when he found the target on the full against Umm Salal.

With only 20 minutes remaining, promoted Shahaniya smelled an upset win, but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Left-winger Abdullah Khaled Al Yazidi’s cross took a wicked deflection off a defender as the ball fell on the path of Sayyar, who hit it home on the run.

The 25-year-old ASPIRE Academy product described it as the best goal of his career.

What went through your mind while taking aim at the goal?

Sometimes, you’ve to take quick decisions. Had I gone for an extra touch, I might’ve lost the ball, resulting in a counter-attack. I think most players would’ve done the same way like I did. I was lucky that the ball found the back of the net.

Is it the best goal of your career?

I think yes. It’ll give me more confidence and add to my responsibility. It would’ve been even more sweeter had we won the game.
