Strong squad
HOSTS Qatar will field 29 competitors at the 49th CISM World Military Championships, which will begin at the Losail Shooting Range on Saturday.
Competitors from 50 countries will be seen in action at the event that will go on till November 20.
A total of 720 shooters will vie for honours in 12 categories — six each for men and women.
“We’re very happy and proud to host this prestigious event in Doha. This is another high-class competition which is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. Once again, we’ve set high standards in organising such an important event, as we aim to continue building a lasting legacy of major sports activities at the global, continental and regional level,” Qatar Military Sports Association (QMSA) Chairman Dahlan Al Hamad told a Press conference last week.
The hosts, who are fielding the largest contingent in the championships, have been preparing meticulously.
“The team had a camp in Switzerland last month and then they won two silver medals and as many bronze medals at the European International Military Championships. Currently, the shooters are training in Qatar and are well-prepared,” added Dahlan.
This is the second time in three years that the QMSA is hosting a major event.
In 2013, it had organised the Second CISM International Shotgun competition at the same venue.
An exhibition, featuring international companies specialising in shooting products, will also be held on the sidelines.
The latest shooting ammunition will be on display at the exhibition and companies will also provide competitors with technical support.
