Shaqab’s Mekhtaal reigns in Chantilly

AL SHAQAB Racing’s Mekhtaal emerged as winner in the Prix d’Ispahan Group 1 race in Chantilly, France, last Sunday.

After cantering on the outside of Robin Of Navan, who was in the lead, the four-year-old attacked him in the middle of the home straight.

Under Gregory Benoist, Mekhtaal kept accelerating and finished half-a-length ahead of Robin Of Navan. 

Mekhtaal’s trainer Jean-Claude Rouge said, “He has matured. We knew he would be better this year. He had already done an excellent season. I really liked the way he performed and his turn of foot 150M from the post.”
