Setting sights on Worlds

QATAR Swimming Association (QSA) President Khaleel Al Jabir was elated with the thumping success of Doha leg of FINA Airweave World Cup, which concluded at the Hamad Aquatic Centre last Sunday.

It was the fifth consecutive year Doha had hosted the competition.

“It was great to witness so many outstanding performances by the world’s best swimmers. We’re also pleased to see our juniors compete against the best. We wish them luck in their future endeavours,” said Al Jabir.

The Doha leg was the sixth of nine two-day meets held from August to October.

“I hope the World Cup series will motivate us to host the 2023 FINA World Championships. We’re committed to showcase the very best,” he added.

Doha won the bid to host the 2023 event at the FINA Executive Committee meeting held in Budapest, Hungary, early this year.

“We’re setting sights on the Worlds. We thank the FINA for the trust it has placed in us. We hope to deliver a spectacular event. We look forward to working with the world body,” added Al Jabir.

The biennial competition includes swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo.
