QSL: Week 4 | SHORT TAKES

AL KHOR 1 AL KHARAITIYAT 1

Khor and Kharaitiyat played out a drab draw. Abdulrahman Ruban put Khor ahead in the 35th minute when he beat goalkeeper Ahmed Sufiyan with a low shot from outside the box after receiving a pass from Mouhcine Iajour. Congolese forward Jeremy Bokilla equalised in the 61st minute, poking the ball home after Khor goalkeeper Baba Djibril messed up a cross from the right.

AL SHAHANIYA 1 AL GHARAFA 1

Promoted side Shahaniya added another valuable point to their tally by holding seven-time champions Gharafa. Mohammed Razzaq put Gharafa in front in the 79th minute while Khaled Gourmi converted from the penalty spot in injury time.

AL SADD 4 MUAITHER 2

Algerian forward Baghdad Bounedjah did the star turn once again as Sadd scored an easy win over Muaither. After Mohammed Kassola put Sadd ahead in the ninth minute, Baghdad struck in the 11th and 43rd minutes to give his team a three-goal cushion. Congolese Alain Dioko and his Jordanian strike partner Mahmoud Za’tara struck in the 61st and 77th to raise Muaither’s comeback hopes, but substitute Abdulkarim Hassan smashed them with an 87th-minute effort.

UMM SALAL 0 AL SAILIYA 0

Umm Salal settled for their third draw in as many rounds when Al Sailiya held them. Though Umm Salal extended their unbeaten run in the competition, coach Bulent Uygun would surely be disappointed with the draw against a side who had just one point going into the match. After a drab first half where both teams lacked creativity, the game turned lively in the second. Sailiya looked the better side in attack, but they could not convert it into their advantage.

AL ARABI 1 AL AHLI 2

Title hopefuls Al Arabi lost their second game when Al Ahli handed them a shock defeat. Congolese striker Firmin Mubele put Ahli ahead in the 24th minute while captain Meshaal Abdullah made it 2-0 in the 41st. Fred Dabanka gave Arabi some consolation when he scored an own goal in injury time.

AL RAYYAN 1 EL JAISH 1

Holders Al Rayyan and title challengers Jaish played out a draw. Midfielder Seydou Keita put Jaish ahead in the 20th minute while Rayyan equalised in injury time, thanks to a fantastic strike from another ex-Barca player Sergio Garcia.

AL WAKRAH 2 LEKHWIYA 3

Lekhwiya continued their unbeaten run, defeating Wakrah this time. Striker Youssef El Arabi struck twice to give the Cops a two-goal cushion by the 19th minute. However, Uruguayan Pablo Zeballos pulled one back. Substitute Ali Afif made it 3-1 in the 73rd before Zeballos scored again to reduce the margin.
