QOC keen to develop all sports

QATAR Olympic Committee (QOC) Secretary General Dr Thani Abdulrahman Al Kuwari said it was always keen to develop all sports.

“Football is one of the most popular sports in the world, especially in the Arab region, but other disciplines are equally important for us,” Al Kuwari told Doha Stadium Plus on the sidelines of FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup for men and women in Doha last week. “Qatar is doing well in some other sports and the QOC supports other federations also.”

On the four-day artistic competition, he said, “Doha has been hosting this leg annually and this year’s event will help us prepare for next year’s World Championships. It’s a moment of pride for us and the Arab world. Qatar will organise an incredible championship.”

Doha will host the region’s first Worlds next year in October at the Aspire Dome, which has been the venue of the annual FIG event since 2008.

“Gymnastics has become very popular through the QOC’s Schools Olympic Programme, which has given a real boost to the sport’s development,” said Al Kuwari.
