QFA cautious about players’ nationality documents
El Jaish may have benefited from the passport issue of Al Nasr’s Wanderley Santos, but the Qatar Football Association (QFA) wants to ensure that the nationality documents of all foreign players featuring in the domestic league are fool-proof and intact.
To avoid any sort of legal issues involving clubs and players, the country launched the Qatar Players Association as well as Foundation of Qatar Sport Arbitration, and they both recently signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Qatar Stars League.
The QFA also received a new circular from the Asian Football Confederation to set everything right if at all there was any issue. As per that, the national football governing body stopped Al Arabi’s Chilean international Luis Jimenez and Al Kharaitiyat’s Moroccan midfielder Driss Fotouhi for another review. They both were signed in the pre-season as Asian players since they also hold passports of Palestine and Indonesia respectively.
“Before approving their documents and allowing them to play, we’re making sure that everything is perfect. We don’t want to take any chance,” a QFA official told Doha Stadium Plus.
