Qatar’s Al Tamimi exits in quarterfinal
QATAR’S Abdulla Al Tamimi frittered away a two-game lead to go down 13-11, 11-6, 12-14, 2-11, 6-11 to Egypt’s Youssef Soliman in the quarterfinal of Gillenmarkets Irish Squash Open.
Al Tamimi, who is currently at a career-high rank of 37 in the world, was the top seed at the annual Professional Squash Association-sanctioned tournament held at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club Courts in Dublin.
Qatar’s No.1 player had it relatively easy in the Round of 16, beating the Czech Republic’s Ondrej Uherka 11-6, 11-8, 11-5.
But seventh-seeded Youssef proved too good for the ASPIRE Academy product in the Round of 8.
Youssef, however, lost to England’s Adrian Waller 7-11, 1-11, 8-11 in the semifinal.
England’s second seed Declan James won the $15,000 prize-money tournament, defeating third seed Waller 11-9, 6-11, 3-11, 11-5, 11-8 in the final.
