Maiden Under-16 triumph for Iraq

IRAQ achieved their maiden triumph at the AFC Under-16 Championship, in Goa, India, last Sunday.

In the final, Mohammed Dawood converted the decisive kick in shoot-out as Iraq defeated Iran 4-3 after extra time ended in a goalless stalemate.

Iraq dominated their neighbours in the title clash, with Dawood twice going close in the first half. The forward, who emerged as the top scorer with six goals, then struck the crossbar on the hour mark. However, he kept his cool in the shoot-out to help his team win.
