Learn photography from professionals!
IN A MOVE to create a rich pool of Doha-based photographers capable of meeting the demands of interna-tional events including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SCDL) will run a Sports Photography Course for Qatar’s nationals and residents alike.
The SCDL will run the year-long course on Saturdays (8am to 2pm) and Sundays (for two hours) in association with UK’s University of South Wales. Getty Images will be its professional arm and Salam Stores the equipment partner.
“We’ve found that there’re more than 400 passionate amateur lensmen asso-ciated with different photography clubs in Qatar. The aim is to teach many of them as well as several others in the country the professional side of pho-tography so that they can be part of the big sports events,” a SCDL official told Doha Stadium Plus.
“The university will take care of the theoretical part and provide a look into the history of world photography. Getty Images will be active on the field, take the participants to events happening in Qatar and guide them by offering hands-on experience,” the official added.
A total of 75 participants will be selected for the certificate of higher education, with 40 from that qualifying for a diploma course the following year. Those who have completed 18 years, hold the High School certificate and a Qatari ID can apply. A portfolio of photographs, not necessarily relating to sports, should also be submitted. Professional photogra-phers can also join.
The course will be offered free of charge. The registration can be made at the grand six-day launch of the event, to be held at the Katara cultural village from November 14 to 19. It will start with an exhibition, where the history of sports photography will be told through images supplied by Getty Images as well as the Qatar Olympic Committee. Next to the exhibition, a one-minute video will describe the benefits of join-ing the Sports Photography Course as well as how to join the first batch start-ing in January, 2017.
A live station, comprising a Green Chrome Wall, will be set up. Sports stars will be in action and the aspiring partic-ipants can take photographs and get a review of it straightaway from the Getty Images experts at the workshop being held simultaneously. Those wish to reg-ister can do so at the University of South Wales counter at Katara.
