‘It’s going to be an exciting round’

QATAR had its first tryst with the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in 2005. For five years, the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) hosted the event. From 2010, it went off the calendar.

Four years later, the WSBK returned to Qatar, this time as the season finale. That year saw Losail creating history by becoming the first circuit to host a WSBK race under lights and since then it has continued to do so.

Unlike the previous years when both races were held together, a new format was implemented at the start of the season, with Race 1 to be held on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday.

“Losail is conducting races under the new format for the first time. I’m sure the fans will enjoy the change. Now, they can feel the adrenaline of the races during two days instead of one,” said QMMF President Abdulrahman Al Mannai.

The QMMF chief expects fans to come out in large numbers to support local rider Saeed Al Sulaiti.

“After a long time, we’re having a local rider on the grid. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting and unpredictable last round. Saeed (Al Sulaiti) needs all support of fans for a great performance on his home track,” he added.
