‘I want to qualify for Tokyo Games’

AHMED Al Dayani, who bagged six gold medals and a bronze at the recent 12th GCC Championships in Doha, is rated as the best artistic gymnast in Qatar.

The 23-year-old had qualified for the pommel horse final at the Artistic World Challenge Cup early this year, which was a commendable achievement. 

Your best moment… 

There’re several memorable moments in my career, but qualifying for the pommel horse finals at the Artistic Worlds in March was my best. 

What’s your ultimate goal? 

For any athlete, Olympics is the ultimate goal. I want to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Games. 

Your favourite gymnast…

I admire Japan’s Hiroyuki Tomita. I became his fan after watching him at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he won silver in parallel bar and team events.

Favourite movie…

Lord of the Rings.

Favourite tourist spot…

Tokyo.
