Fontaine elected as WSF president
FRANCE’S Jacques Fontaine was elected as the new president of World Squash Federation (WSF) at its 46th Annual General Assembly held in Hong Kong last week.
He succeeds India’s Narayanaswamy Ramachandran, who completed his second and final four-year term.
Fontaine is the WSF’s ninth president since its inception in 1967 and the first Frenchman to hold the post.
He is currently serving as the president of the French Squash Federation and is also a Board Member of the French National Olympic Committee.
“My intention will be to work with a new governance model based on integrity, transparency and team spirit. The WSF needs to establish a defined agreement with the professional section of our discipline — the PSA,” said Fontaine.
One of Fontaine’s main tasks would be to secure a place for the sport in Olympics after two successive failed bids.
“The Olympic agenda remains a priority, along with increasing the profile of our sport worldwide and supporting grass-roots development,” added Fontaine.
Four new vice-presidents — Colombia’s Pablo Serna, Australia’s Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Ireland’s Gar Holohan and Malaysia’s Huang Ying How were also elected in the General Assembly.
