Al Mana basks in Asian event glory

ASIAN Weightlifting Federation (AWF) President Mohammed Yousef Al Mana, who also heads the Qatar Fencing and Weightlifting Federation, was happy with the successful organisation of Men’s and Women’s Asian Championships at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, last month.
Iran won the men’s title with 562 points while China claimed the honour in the women’s category (623) in the six-day competition.
The championships were a part of the Inspiring Ashgabat Test Event Series for the Fifth Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, to be held from September 17 to 27.
“I thank the organisers for the event’s successful organisation. Asians dominated the 2016 Olympic Games where they won 13 of the 15 gold medals. We’re proud to be at the top,” said Al Mana.
The test event series also included Asian Kickboxing Championships and Central Asian short course swimming.
“We wanted to help the Turkmenistan federation host the Asian event as it wanted to see the level of preparedness for the Martial Arts Games,” added Al Mana.
