Vingegaard wins Tour of Poland, secures overall title in triumphant return

WARSAW, Poland: Jonas Vingegaard, the Danish two-time Tour de France champion, claimed victory at the Tour of Poland on Sunday, marking a triumphant return to the race where his World Tour journey began. The 27-year-old, riding for Visma-Lease A Bike, opted out of the Vuelta a España following an exhausting Tour de France, where he finished second after a three-month hiatus due to a crash at the Tour of the Basque Country in April.
Returning to Poland, where he secured his first UCI World Tour win in 2019, Vingegaard proved his mettle by clinching the overall title, despite not winning a single stage. “Everything went according to plan. After the Tour de France, I felt that I had 100% recovered from the injury,” Vingegaard shared. “This season I have learned to enjoy the moments and not to make long-term plans. Now I need a rest and then I will think about the future.”
Vingegaard seized control of the yellow jersey after stage two, finishing second in the individual time trial. He maintained his 13-second lead over Italian Diego Ulissi of UAE Team Emirates through the final stage, securing his victory in the seven-stage race.
