Pidcock’s Tour of the Basque Country hopes dashed after fall

DOHA: British cycling sensation Tom Pidcock’s aspirations for the Tour of the Basque Country took a tumble as he was rushed to the hospital following a fall during a course reconnaissance. Ineos Grenadiers, his team, confirmed the unfortunate incident on Monday, prompting Pidcock’s withdrawal from the upcoming tour.

At 24 years old, Pidcock’s cycling prowess has garnered attention worldwide. From clinching the men’s cross-country cycling gold at the Tokyo Olympics to dominating elite cross-country events, including victories at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships in 2022 and the UCI World Championships in the previous year, Pidcock’s track record speaks volumes about his talent and determination.

The Tour of the Basque Country, slated to commence on Monday and culminate on April 6, was poised to be another platform for Pidcock to showcase his skills and compete against elite cyclists.
