Marchant hospitalized after crash in UCI track cycling Champions League

LONDON: British Olympic gold medallist Katy Marchant was taken to the hospital following a dramatic crash during the women’s keirin semi-final at the UCI Track Cycling Champions League in London, British Cycling confirmed on Saturday.

Marchant, who clinched gold in the team sprint at the Paris Olympics, suffered a broken arm in a collision with German cyclist Alessa-Catriona Propster. The incident sent both riders over the trackside barrier and into a spectator seating area, British media reported.

The crash brought the race to a halt as medical staff attended to the injured cyclists. While Marchant was hospitalized for further treatment, Propster’s condition remains unclear.

The UCI Track Cycling Champions League features some of the world’s top riders, but this incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in high-speed track cycling. Fans and fellow athletes have expressed their support for Marchant, wishing her a swift recovery.(Reuters)
