Bussi breaks her own hour world record, surpasses 50.455 km mark

MEXICO CITY: Italy’s Vittoria Bussi has once again etched her name in the history books by breaking her own women’s hour world record, covering a stunning 50.455 km at the Velodromo Bicentenario in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on Saturday, according to cycling’s world governing body, the UCI.
Bussi, 38, previously held the record from 2018 to 2021 and reclaimed it in October 2023 when she became the first woman to surpass the 50-km barrier, clocking 50.267 km. This latest feat pushes the limits of endurance and precision even further.
The mathematics PhD had initially attempted to better her record on Friday but stopped midway. However, she returned with renewed determination the next day and succeeded.
“This record has always been really special to me as an athlete and as a person,” Bussi said in a UCI statement. “The hour taught me that one of the most important things in life is to understand the preciousness of time in every single instant of our life.”
Bussi’s achievement is another milestone in a remarkable career marked by resilience, intellect, and unmatched perseverance.(Reuters)
