Dazzling Advani defends IBSF World Billiards title

Doha: Pankaj Advani seemed to have saved his best for the last as he thrashed England’s Mike Russell 6-2 to defend his IBSF World Billiards Championships 150 up title in Doha on Sunday.

Defending champion and top seed Advani has been in a class of own on his way to the final as he stormed through unbeaten, and the title clash was no different.

Russel was off to a flier in the best of 11, winning the first game with a 155 point break (155-0), but the Indian ace drew level in the very next game (150-128). The second seed took the second game with breaks of 84 and 67 (151-92) to lead once again, but from then on it was all Advani.

The 32-year-old then had three consecutive 151-point breaks (151-0, 151-6, 151-0) to race to a 4-2 lead as Russell struggled to keep up with his opponents majestic game.

Another break of 145 gave Advani the seventh game as well (150-58) and it was just a matter of time before he wrapped up the match in the eighth game with a 110-point break (150-21)
