Qatar’s Younousse and Tijan cruise in Warsaw

Warsaw, Poland: Qatar’s Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan cruised past Slovenia’s Jan Pokeršnik and Nejc Zemljak in their first main round match at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Warsaw Open in Poland on Thursday. The Asian champions will meet USA’s Trevor Crabb and Tri Bourne in their next match on Friday to determine the Group G champions.

Meanwhile, last year’s winner Piotr Kantor made a convincing start to this year’s edition of the tournament.

Kantor, who is playing alongside Mariusz Prudel as his regular teammate Bartosz Losiak is recovering from injury, pleased the fans on the centre court stands with a comfortable 2-0 (21-13, 21-13) win over seventh-seeded Pablo Herrera Allepuz and Adrian Gavira Collado of Spain.

Top-seeded Polish pair of Grzegorz Fijalek and Michal Bryl needed three sets to overcome the challenge of Austria’s Thomas Kunert and Daniel Muellner (17-21, 21-16, 15-13).
