Katara Beach Volleyball Cup from March 5

Doha: The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Katara Beach Volleyball Cup will be held from March 5 to 10.

Katara General Manager Dr Khalid Bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti and Qatar Volleyball Association President Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari announced the details of the Four-Star tournament at a press conference on Thursday.

Qatar is the first country in the Middle East to host a four-star World Tour beach volleyball tournament and were are proud to host it at Katara, said Al Sulaiti, who is also the Tournament Director. “We are looking to have more tournaments like this here.”

Al Kuwari urged fans to come in large numbers and watch the event that would be held in the beautiful setting of Katara. The centre-court of the tournament will be set up at the majestic setting of Amphitheatre.

“This is going to be a top-class event with all the best teams participating and we invite fans to come and watch it,” said Al Kuwari.

Qatar Beach Volleyball Committee Vice-President Mohammed Salem Al Kuwari, who is also the tournament coordinator, and Darvish Ahmed Al Shedani, the Director of Marketing and Deputy Tournament Director also attended the press meet.

All top players, including the world No.1 pairing of Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak from Poland, no.2 ranked Russians Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Nikita Liamin and Italians Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo, who are third in the world, are competing in Qatar.

Qatar will have three teams – Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse, Jefferson Santos and Julio De Nascimento and Ahmed Nassir and Benlouaer Ziad – in the 24 team event.
