Lakshya Sen scripts historic first for Indian badminton at Paris Olympics 2024

PARIS: Lakshya Sen has etched his name in the annals of Indian badminton history with a sensational victory at the Paris Olympics 2024. In a gripping quarter-final clash, Sen triumphed over Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien-Chen in a thrilling three-game encounter, marking a historic first for Indian male shuttlers.

With this win, Sen has become the first Indian male shuttler to reach the semi-finals of the Olympic badminton singles event, joining the ranks of PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal, who have previously achieved this feat.

This achievement is particularly significant as it positions Sen just one win away from securing an Olympic medal. Prior to Sen’s remarkable run, Kidambi Srikanth (2016) and Parupalli Kashyap (2012) had both reached the quarter-finals but were unable to advance further. Sen’s milestone not only surpasses their achievements but also elevates the aspirations of Indian badminton on the global stage.
