Jun Hao’s India Open campaign ends in second round

NEW DELHI: Leong Jun Hao’s journey at the India Open came to an end in the second round after the world No. 28 Malaysian lost 18-21, 12-21 to China’s world No. 21 Weng Hongyang at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, New Delhi.

Despite showing early control in the first game, Jun Hao struggled with unforced errors and eventually lost momentum. In the second game, he failed to keep up with Weng’s pace, resulting in a straight-sets defeat.

The 23-year-old had started the tournament on a high note, upsetting China’s world No. 6 Li Shi Feng in the opening round with a stunning 18-21, 21-17, 21-17 victory. This marked a positive change after his first-round exits in the last two tournaments.

Meanwhile, Weng advances to the quarterfinals, where he will face India’s Kiran George, who upset Frenchman Alex Lanier.

Jun Hao will now turn his attention to the Indonesia Masters next week, where he has been paired against Weng once again in the opening round.
