Chou stuns world no. 1 to reach Indonesia Open final

JAKARTA: Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen pulled off a major upset at the Indonesia Open in Jakarta on Saturday, defeating world number one Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-16, 23-21 to book a spot in the final. Despite falling behind 5-1 in both games, the 35-year-old showed remarkable resilience to secure a place in his first final since the Taipei Open last month.
Chou will face Denmark’s Anders Antonsen, who overcame defending champion Shi Yuqi in a three-game thriller. After losing the first game 9-21, Antonsen capitalized on Shi’s errors to take control and close out the match 21-18, 21-19 — marking his first win over the Chinese star since January 2024.
In the women’s draw, South Korea’s top seed An Se-young defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 21-18, 21-17 in a repeat of their All England Open semifinal clash. An advances to her third career final at the Indonesia Open, where she will face world number two Wang Zhiyi, who breezed past Han Yue 21-12, 21-13 in just 39 minutes.
