Thompson sprints to world-leading 9.77 seconds at Jamaican Olympic trials

KINGSTON: Kishane Thompson stunned the athletics world by clocking a world-leading 9.77 seconds to win the men’s 100 meters at the Jamaican Olympic trials on Friday. This remarkable feat not only secured his place at the Olympics but also positioned him as the joint ninth fastest man in history.

The race was fiercely competitive, with two-time World Championships finalist Oblique Seville finishing second in an impressive 9.82 seconds, and World Indoor 60m bronze medallist Ackeem Blake taking third with a time of 9.92 seconds.

Thompson’s victory is even more remarkable considering this is only his second season as a professional sprinter and he had not competed at all this season prior to the championship.
