Qatar’s Salah Younes breaks 100m personal best with victory in Britain
LONDON: Qatar’s Salah Younes won the men’s 100 metres at the Stratford Speed GP in Britain on Monday, setting a personal best of 10.13 seconds as he builds towards next month’s Asian Games in Japan.
The 21-year-old improved on his previous best of 10.23 seconds, recorded at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China, in July.
Younes’s latest performance also marked his fastest time of the season and provides a boost to his preparations for the Asian Games, where he is expected to compete in the sprint events.
The victory comes as Qatar’s athletics programme steps up preparations for major international competitions, with the federation working to develop its sprinting talent through targeted training programmes.
Younes also competes in the 200 metres and has continued to make progress in the event as he works towards improving his performances across both distances.
His 10.13-second run represents a significant improvement at a key stage of the season and strengthens his credentials ahead of the Asian Games in Japan.
The young sprinter will now look to build on the performance as Qatar’s athletics team prepares for the continental multi-sport event, where competition will include some of Asia’s leading track athletes.
