Qatar’s Ashraf Amgad El Seify enters hammer throw final

Doha, Qatar: Asian Games champion Ashraf Amgad El Seify of Qatar qualified for the hammer throw final of the IAAF World Athletics Championships with an effort of 76.22m at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha on Tuesday.

Competing in Group A of the qualifiers, El Seify’s best throw which came in his third attempt was just short of the qualification mark of 76.50.

But it fetched him a 12th place overall which was good enough for a berth in Wednesday’s final.

Qatar’s Mariam Farid continued to inspire as she clocked 1:09.49sec in 400m hurdles, which was her personal best.

“I am very proud, it’s a dream come true,” said Farid. “On the track, I wanted to cry, it was just so beautiful. I am very happy to improve my new national record by two seconds. This is the first World Championships for the Middle East and it was great to perform in front of my friends and family,” she added.

In the men’s 400m, Abdelalah Haroun produced his season’s best but still finished sixth in his heat in 47.76secs

In the men’s 3000m Steeplechase, Qatar’s Yaser Bagharab finished 14th with a time of 8:25.79.
