Qatar names six-athlete squad for World Athletics U20 Championships
DOHA: The Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) has named a six-member team for the World Athletics U20 Championships, which will be held in Oregon, United States, from Aug. 5-9.
The squad includes four field athletes and two track competitors, with Abdullah Al Abdullah selected for the pole vault, Abdulrahman Al Malki for the high jump, Abdulrahman Ibrahim for the hammer throw and Hamad Dawi for the discus throw.
On the track, Yusuf Abdulaziz will compete in the 400 metres, while Mohammed Waheed has been selected for the 1,500 metres.
The QAF said the team had completed its preparations for the championships and would aim to deliver strong performances while building on Qatar’s recent success in international athletics.
As part of its build-up to the competition, the federation organised overseas training camps in Europe and Africa over recent months to enhance the athletes’ physical conditioning and technical preparation.
The championships will bring together many of the world’s leading under-20 athletes, providing an important platform for emerging talent and an opportunity to gain experience at the highest level of junior competition.
Qatar will be looking to continue its tradition of producing athletes capable of competing on the international stage as the young squad targets strong performances across both track and field events.
