Nuguse wins in 1,500m at Zurich’s Weltklasse Diamond League
ZURICH: American middle-distance runner Yared Nuguse claimed a remarkable victory in the 1,500 metres at the Weltklasse Diamond League in Zurich on Thursday, overcoming a high-calibre field despite challenging weather conditions that tempered world record ambitions.
Nuguse, who secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, executed a brilliant final kick in the last 50 metres to edge out Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who finished second. Olympic champion Cole Hocker crossed the line in third place.
The race featured all top four finishers from the Olympic final, but this time, it was Nuguse who emerged victorious. His winning time of 3:29.21 showcased his growing dominance in the event, as he once again outpaced Ingebrigtsen, whom he had previously defeated for third place in Paris.
