Lyles Eyes Olympic Trials After Bermuda Grand Prix Victory

HAMILTON: World champion sprinter Noah Lyles showcased his speed and determination at the Bermuda Grand Prix, clinching victory in the men’s 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 9.96 seconds. Despite his triumph, Lyles remains focused on fine-tuning his performance ahead of the upcoming United States Olympic trials.

Lyles, who secured bronze in the 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics, admitted to a slow start off the blocks but surged ahead in the latter half of the race to secure the win, crossing the finish line 0.13 seconds ahead of Canadian Aaron Brown. Reflecting on his performance, Lyles expressed satisfaction but acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in his start.

In an interview with NBC, Lyles shared his excitement about his progress while recognizing the need for refinement, stating, “I felt that I had a pretty average start (then) my acceleration kicked in. I’m excited to finally be getting there but there’s definitely a lot to clean up.”

This victory marks an improvement for the 26-year-old sprinter, who clocked a 10.01 finish at the Tom Jones Memorial meet earlier in the month. With the U.S. trials looming in June, Lyles remains determined to push his limits, setting his sights on achieving even faster times.

“I see 9.96 – I expect to run that in the next meet,” Lyles affirmed, illustrating his commitment to continuous growth and excellence in his pursuit of Olympic success.
