Kipyegon dominates Athlos NYC meet, Brown stuns Gabby Thomas

NEW YORK: Kenya’s Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon showcased her dominance once again by winning the 1,500 meters at the inaugural women-only Athlos NYC meet on Thursday. Held at New York’s Icahn Stadium, the event attracted fans with its electric atmosphere, celebrating the end of a busy athletics season. Launched by entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian, Athlos aims to amplify the star power of women’s track and field.
Kipyegon, the world record holder and three-time Olympic champion, cruised to victory with a time of 4:04.79, cementing her reign as the undisputed queen of the 1,500 meters. Ethiopian runner Diribe Welteji finished second in 4:05.58, while Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders took third in 4:06.25.
The event saw a major upset in the 200 meters, as Brittany Brown stunned Paris 2024 gold medallist Gabby Thomas. Each event winner pocketed a remarkable $60,000, double the prize money offered at the Diamond League finale, and received a custom Tiffany crown. Athlos NYC has set a new standard in women’s athletics with its lucrative rewards and star-studded performances.
