Haroun qualifies for 400m semifinals in IAAF World Championships

London: Qatari sprinter Abdallelah Haroun qualified for the 400m semifinals in with a 45.27 second run at the IAAF World Championships here on Saturday.

Hammer thrower Ashraf Elseify, who won the World Junior Championships in 2012 and 2014, will be hoping to win his maiden senior medal. The 22-year-old finished an incredible sixth in last year’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games in a field of much older and more experienced athletes.

Joining Elseify in the field events will be fellow Aspire Academy graduate, 21-year-old Ahmed Bader, who was the youngest competitor in last year’s Olympic javelin throw final and recently won silver at the Asian Athletics Championships.

However, all eyes will be on Muataz Barshim, who will be aiming to become Qatar’s first-ever world champion. The current world No.1 has shown incredible form throughout this year.
