Spain beat France 2-0 to reach first World Cup final since 2010
TEXAS: Spain secured a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with a commanding 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday’s semifinal. La Roja continued their recent dominance over Les Bleus, having also eliminated them at UEFA Euro 2024 and in last year’s UEFA Nations League.
Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute after Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the box by Lucas Digne. France’s hopes suffered another setback when defender William Saliba was forced off injured before halftime.
Spain sealed the win in the second half as Pedro Porro capitalised on a flowing move involving Dani Olmo to score past goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The 2010 champions will now face the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between England and Argentina, while France will compete in the third-place playoff. It will be Spain’s first World Cup final appearance since lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010.
