Bellingham faces scrutiny after clash with Argentina player following England’s semifinal exit

ATLANTA: England midfielder Jude Bellingham could face disciplinary action after an altercation with Argentina’s Valentin Barco following the Three Lions’ dramatic 2-1 defeat in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final. Frustration boiled over after Argentina overturned England’s lead with two late goals, both created by Lionel Messi, to book a place in the final.

Tempers had flared throughout the match, with referee Ismail Elfath forced to intervene during an early confrontation involving Bellingham and Messi. After the final whistle, Bellingham approached a celebrating group of Argentina players and appeared to slap unused substitute Valentin Barco on the back of the head, prompting a heated exchange with several Argentine players, including Nicolas Otamendi.
